Summer fun with the family


The summer holidays are now upon us and Sussex has plenty going on this summer to keep children and the whole family entertained over the 6 week break. With events, workshops and shows all over Sussex take a look below to find out what is happening near you!
Brighton's big screen on the beach

Brighton's Big Screen on the beach is back for a summer of sport and blockbuster movies including, Frozen, Paddington and Big Hero 6. The event includes grandstand seating, refreshments area and a great way to entertain the little ones for a couple of hours! 

Drusillas is always a great choice for an action packed day out and this summer there are plenty of opportunities for the children to meet their favourite character! Fireman Sam, Hello Kitty and even some of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are making appearances on various dates throughout July and August so make sure you don't miss out! 

Worthing Rotary Carnival, 29-31 August, offers a bank holiday weekend packed with things to do in the local area including a free family festival, vintage day, carnival procession and free family party! 

Family Festivals

Red Arrows at Airbourne

Airbourne, Eastbourne's free international airshow, hits Eastbourne seafront between 13-16 August and is set to be an entertaining four days full of incredible flying displays, fantastic ground attractions and live entertainment from the Beach Stage with headline act Scouting for Girls entertaining the crowds on Airbourne's 'Super Saturday'!

Don't worry if you miss Airbourne because the following weekend is Shoreham Airshow. Taking place 22-23 August enjoy some of the best UK and European flying and static displays amongst a unique 'garden party' atmosphere at the oldest licensed airfield in the UK. 


Arts & Crafts Galore!

It isn't always guaranteed sunshine in England, even on the South Coast, however there is still plenty to entertain the family. Hove Museum are offering free drop summer fun workshops on 4, 11, 18 and 25 August.

Towner in Eastbourne offer some great children activities where the little ones can show off their creative side in various workshops throughout summer. 

Worthing Museum have a great programme lined up for summer with events and workshops galore. With a Secret Garden event on the 13 August, Art Attack session on 19 Augut and so much more the children won't want to leave!


Get active in the outdoors this summer! 

Fingers crossed this summer the sun will have its hat on and the kids can let off steam in the great outdoors. A great place in the summer sun and one of Lewes' best kept secret is Pells Pool. A gorgeous spot to spend the day with the freshwater, outdoor lido, paddling pool for the little ones and shady picnic space. 

For young adventurers Birling Gap have got a great 50 Things Discoverer Week going on between 3-9 August. This week long event offers an array of activities such as snail racing, wild art and jumping waves! 

The Redoubt Fortress in Eastbourne has got a Pirate School running until 1 September. Young buccaneers can drop in between 11am-4pm daily and learn all things pirate!  

Little Treasures Week

Little Treasures

Eastbourne sets sail for ‘Little Treasures’ week this August as the Royal Hippodrome, Redoubt Fortress and Treasure Island all join together in a week-long programme of pirate fun, with one discounted family pass.

Running from 24-30 August you can enjoy a host of pirate themed entertainment for the whole family for just £99. The pass includes theatre shows, attractions entry and much more!
